How big is a pickleball court?

There are standard dimensions of any pickleball court:

Dimensions of the entire pickleball court

  • 20 feet wide (sideline to sideline) x 44 feet long (baseline to baseline).
  • The diagonal line that spans from one corner to the opposite (crosscourt) corner is: 580 inches or 48 feet, 4 inches.

Kitchen/non-volley zone/NVZ dimensions

  • 20 feet wide (sideline to sideline) x 7 feet high (from the net toward the baseline).

The playing surface dimensions on each side of the net, excluding the kitchen

  • 20 feet wide (from sideline to sideline) x 15 feet long (from kitchen line to baseline).

The left & right playing area dimensions

  • 10 feet wide (from sideline to centerline) x 15 feet long (from kitchen line to baseline).

The pickleball net dimensions

  • Up to 22.5 feet wide.
  • At least 20 feet, 9 inches wide.
  • 36 inches high, at each sideline.
  • 34 inches high, at the center.

Sections of a pickleball court

A pickleball court has three sections on each side of the net:

  • Right service area.
  • Left service area.
  • The kitchen zone/non-volley zone (NVZ).

Pickleball court lines

Width of court lines

  • All lines on a pickleball court are 2 inches wide.

A pickleball court has two sidelines

  • 44 feet (from baseline to baseline) or 22 feet (from baseline to net).

A pickleball court has two baselines

  • 20 feet wide (from sideline to sideline).

A pickleball court has two kitchen/non-volley zone lines (one on each side of the net)

  • 20 feet wide (from sideline to sideline).

Centerlines (one on each side of the net)

  • 15 feet (from kitchen line to baseline).

Playing surface

Pickleball can be played on many different types of surfaces, which may change depending on if you are inside or outside.

Outdoor court

Outdoor courts tend to be surfaces that already exist, although you can also install your own sport court pickleball court. Here are some of the surfaces you can play pickleball on:

  • Tennis courts.
  • Concrete.
  • Asphalt.
  • Driveways.
  • Cul-du-sacs.

If you are playing pickleball on an already-existing surface, you will want at least a 30x60-foot area.
